Georgetown Law School – Prestige on the East Coast

Georgetown University

Georgetown University Law Center, often shortened to Georgetown Law, is part of Georgetown University located in Washington D.C.   As one of the top law schools in the nation, this elite institute is often referred to as a T-14 school.  This means it ranks among the top 14 schools that are consistently placed at the top of annual law school rankings performed by U.S. News and World Report.

The steadfast striving for excellence that this institute is capable of proves its students leave school with accomplished skills and knowledge.  The legendary ability Georgetown Law School has to prepare law students to enter their chosen field upon graduation from the University makes graduates some of the most sought-after by well-known law firms across the country.

In the 2010 edition of the U.S. News and World Report, Georgetown Law School was placed in 14th place for overall top law schools.  Its environmental law department earned number six in the ranking, and the clinical programs won Georgetown Law School the number one slot in the ranking.  Several other recognitions were made for the school in the report.  Georgetown Law School opened in 1870 and was the first law school even run by a Jesuit institution in the U.S.  It has been separated from the rest of Georgetown University since 1890 when it relocated near what is now Chinatown.

For eager applicants hoping to attend Georgetown Law School, they should know that the school is highly competitive.  Then again, all high ranking law schools are competitive, as only the brightest minds with praiseworthy acknowledgements can be admitted to such prestigious institutes of higher learning.  The University receives more than 10,000 applications each year, which is more than any of the other top law schools.  Admission each year averages between 20 - 22%.  LSAT scores of those admitted are around 170 and the median GPA is 3.67.

During the 2009-2010 academic school year, the full-time enrollment of students at Georgetown Law School was just over 1600 students.  The campus itself is comprised of five buildings.  The law library is one of the largest belonging to one of the top law schools in the U.S.  The J.D. program at Georgetown Law School can be completed in three years of full-time study or four-years of evening part-time enrollment.  Various LL.M. and J.S.D. programs are offered there as well.  Various tracks of curriculums are offered depending on where each student wants to take their studies.
